In the heart of Ghana, where ancient traditions intertwine with the echoes of colonialism, a captivating story unfolds. Ayorkumi, a Total Theatre Act penned by Gerald Nyarko-Mensah, transports audiences to the Northern and Volta regions during the colonial era.

The narrative centers around a young princess, narrowly escaping the clutches of slave raiders on a fateful day in Salaga. Rescued by a benevolent salt trader from Keta, she is brought to the coastal town and raised as his own. Despite the skepticism of the local elders, the princess grows into a remarkable woman, her royal lineage a secret waiting to be revealed.

On her 18th birthday, a transformative encounter with the gods unveils her true identity and the destiny awaiting her. Through a poignant engagement with the spirit of her deceased mother, the princess learns of her ancestral roots and the importance of preserving her lineage.

Ayorkumi is a sensory feast, blending music, dance, narrations, and poetry to create a truly immersive experience. The talented ensemble, including Picornia Ibrahim, Benjamin Adzika, Kwabena Okyere, and Francis Akologo, brings the characters to life with their powerful performances. Dancers Korku Etse and Jimi Akitsi, led by Kafui Agbeva, infuse the stage with energy and grace. Guest singer Lamisi adds a soulful touch to the production.
